I was a bit disappointed in myself for not being able to follow through with my original plan, however, due to my chosen student missing a few classes, I'm needing more time to come up with his task. He will get it...and at that time, we'll have something to celebrate his learning--maybe I can use oit in Part 2!
The student that came up with his Sound Story assignment has ASD and has had many behavioural issues in his classes in the past. I dealt with him personally several times as Senior Teacher at St. Marguerite...so I was interested in seeing how we could tap into his interests in Music class this term. Luckily, he LOVES music..and technology! Double score! I'll worry about drama when we get to that bridge. He really surprised me with how well and quickly he made this sound story his. The willingness and eagerness to learn because of that ipad was amazing to watch!
The assignment was intended to be for a group of 2 or more, but because of all the social issues and behaviours that come up, he asked if he could work alone. At first i wasn't sure as the task involved a two person job--or so I thought. He knocked his assignment out of the park, and after presenting to the class, we extended it to recording and using iMovie to create the artifact I brought into class. He's already asking when he can do this again. I thought..hey..why not take a CHristmas story and create one too...he's all over it.
